As an interest away from the dim lights and cigarette smoke filled dumps I normally reside in between the hours 6pm - 11pm most weekdays I like to browse t'internet and look for snooker information and sites from all corners of the globe.
However, amongst the stuff I can't read - the Hungarian Snooker website for example - I came across the US Snooker official site.
What's wrong with that? Nowt at all, but seeing the name of Alan Morris now billed as 'Executive Director' of said organisation brought back a distant memory of conversation I had with some snooker journo's at a tournament.
Now, see this Alan Morris guy used to label himself as a 'snooker consultant' (whatever the frig that means) and his 'dream' was to see snooker as big in the States as it is in dear old Blighty (bigger boys have tried and failed matey, but 1 out of 10 for trting Al).He also used to claim to be a snooker professional but as far as my rather extensive records go, it doesn't appear that he ever played an official match as a pro.
More so my conversation with them there snooker journo's came to the conclusion that no one, not one single journo had heard of him as a player.
His name did crop up as the plonker who offered his services to TSN Sport aka 110Sport to be a roving snooker reporter stateside and I believe he had summat to do with the IBSF (website and stateside reporting I think - a role for which he didn't get paid I understand) in the period when Anthony Hull used to be the big cheese.
But his biggest claim to shame is that I've seen a pic of him playing snooker with one of those 'pool gloves'. I'll dig that photo out and reproduce here on this very blog...
So who are you Mr Morris?
Answers on postcards please to the usual address.

I'm thrilled that I'm not the only person to uncover the fact that Alan morris is a legend in his own dream world and a total nonentity in the real world!
mmm someone who agrees with me??? I must be going mainstream....
dear me, i never fail to be amazed at how people can write such crap about something they know nothing about... one word springs to mind when reading this article, and that's 'jealous'...
World Snooker seem to know who he is as they did an interview with him at the 2005 World Championship in Sheffield.

Just thought I should say that if you were to know the legend Alan Morris himself, then you wouldn't be saying the things you have! Its libel actually as its defamation of character. Thankfully for your sake he isn't like that!
whats libel? stating that no fucker has heard of him as a professional snooker player? statiting that I think he looks like a plonker coz he wears a snooker glove, coz he asked TSN to be their stateside reporter??
Publish his professional playing record... then I'll issue an apology.
No one is saying he don't exist I'm saying he only went to the states coz he couldn't hack the the snooker circuit over here... again I ask publish his playing career.. u muppet
I have met Alan as I once watched him play an exhibition, and he knocked in a 141 break so he's a good player too.
I talked to him and he is one of the most humble people you could ever wish to meet, and always spends time to talk with you and explain about snooker.
He did become a pro member of the WPBSA but at the same career got the opportunity to go to America to help promote the game there so he stayed with that instead.
The Billiard Congress Of America in the United States would define him as a professional player as he makes his entire living from playing billiards, however he's not a member of the WPBSA now and do not claim to have professional status anymore.
He just wants to promote and develop the sport in the United States, and put on snooker events in the United States in order to give playing opportunities for snooker players around the world there.
I agree with the comments my friend made above.
Alan has never claimed to have a pro playing record as he simply decided instead at that same time that he wanted to help the snooker's promotion in America - as a "so-called" snooker fan yourself, I would have thought you would applaud the efforts he is making in his position in America?
So what of he wears a glove? I just can't see how you can justify calling him a "plonker" for what is commonly found and acceptable piece of equipment for playing billiard sports around the world. That is simply a total prejudice.
Are you just criticising him so you can sleep more easily at night? As it certainly doesn't serve any legitimate purpose or help with snooker's promotion in America to needlessly bad mouth him.
You build yourself as a "Northern Snooker Hero". Why don't you publish your evidence that you are a hero or reveal actually who you are? Instead of hiding behind this mask to critise him and other individuals in the game from what I have read. Alan's contribution to the promotion and well-being of the sport around the world is certainly immeasurably a lot greater than what you are doing.
If you had any sense of decency you would contact him to clear this up, and then remove this posting as it's totally unjustified.
